It works

I have had a smaller soleus for over 5 years that has been great and a big improvement over the loud Whirlpools that broke after a couple of years.
This is a bigger more industrial version that I use in the basement. It is much louder than the other soleus, but it is a white noise sound that is not obnoxious if you're not right next to it.
The ability to set humidity level digitally is nice. |
Worked fine until it passed one year mark! Lousy customer serivice

| We had it for 13 months and it quit, just when the warranty ran out. We tried calling their customer service but they would not pick up the phone. We called several times a day, emailed, but we did not get any help. I did not expect paying over $200+ just for it to work within a year. In fact, it was working less than a year as I didn't turn it on in the summer, only during the rain season which is rare in non-coastal Northern California. |

| We bought two units when we had an emergency. Both units arrived fine and for last 30 days we've been running units almost non stop. It collects water a lot and unit is very quiet. When a bucket is full, machine shuts off. We are very happy with this product. |
Quality is a crap shoot, and Customer Service is the Pits

My purchasing experience with this unit and the company that makes it is all over the map. I'll try to be concise:
1. My unit did not draw moisure out of the air when it arrived.
2. It took ONE MONTH to receive a replacement from SoleusAir
3. Hysterically, the unit comes with a bright orange sheet in the box that says something like, "Don't return to the store if you have a problem, but contact the helpful staff at SoleusAir for assistance."
4. Calling SoleusAir is an exercise in futility. No one answers... ever! After you've waited on hold for 1/2 hour and finally hung up, someone will call you back (!) and then tell you to leave a message in someone's voicemail. Even though they called you, they don't want to actually talk to you!
5. The second unit that arrived - again, one month after I ordered - did work, and has been doing so since I plugged it in. It draws a lot of water out of the air, and is relatively quiet, depending on your fan setting. In general, it sounds like a fan, and the compressor noise is basically non-existent in comparison to the fan sound.
6. If it worked right away and/or the customer service was great, I would recommend this item, but we really owe it to the good companies to not buy from the companies that are bad. If I knew now what I knew then, I would not be giving a company like this my money.
7. If you don't believe in my philosophy and just have to have this item, then buy it directly from Amazon (and not a third party vendor) because at least with them, if the unit is defective when it arrives, they'll happily cross ship from their own stock and your hassle will be minimized. |
Broken Unit, Horrible Customer Service

Do yourself a favor and skip this product. Mine worked great for the first two months and then the humidity sensor failed, rendering the dehumidifier useless.
When I contacted customer support (e-mails and phone calls over a month long period) the end result was that I would have to send the entire unit back at my expense. When I asked about replacing just the control board, the service rep said that was impossible. The entire time she was rude and extremely unknowledgeable of the product. I also inquired about purchasing the control board at my own expense. This too is impossible. Apparently what makes these dehumidifiers so special is that they are produced as a single unit with absolutely no replaceable parts! I'm guessing that there is some sort of mother and father dehumidifier that produce these units as their offspring.
She also offered up the tidbit that the summer is the busy time of the year for them because they have so many broken units. Great! |
