Great for a little pint...

I've had this machine for about 6 weeks and have used it many times. It's great for small areas--mine's in semi-finished basement. I don't run it all day, however, since it sucks up moisture well in 4-hour intervals (one of 2 automatic settings you can program, the other being 2 hours). I tried running it longer a couple of times, but smaller intervals seem to work better. I also don't have it hooked up to a hose for drainage, but use the machine's reservoir instead (recycle the water on my garden plants). The auto shut-off is a great feature when the reservoir gets too full. This isn't a heavy duty machine (which may explain some of the negative reviews where it sounds as if machine is running a lot), but it pulls the moisture beautifully from my basement in, again, the short cycles that I program.

It's construction is solid (for plastic), the wheels work well and make an otherwise heavy machine easy to move around (not always the case on heavy molded plastic products), and the functions are fairly idiot-proof. I haven't changed the filter yet, so can't speak to that feature. Surprisingly compact and stylish as well. Will be getting one for my first floor next summer, assuming this one continues to purr like the happy little kitten it is right now...
Not what I was promised

Description of product cited direct drainage with added hose. This did not drain at all, requires drilling hole in bottom of bucket, or constant emptying. Soleus air DP1-30-03 30-. Very disappointing!

Reviewer: TME,
The product seems to work all right but I hooked up a hose to it and it continues to leak into the bucket. It ends up shutting off after a few hours instead of continuing to draw moisture out of my damp Michigan basement.
Great Product

Reviewer: Carole Barnes,
I read the other reviews on Amazon re dehumidifiers and am so glad I did. Otherwise I had no clue as to how they might perform. This one was chosen based on the reviews and has performed superbly for the problem we had in a hallway. It is easy to empty and the cut off and signal when the container is full are excellent features. It has been working steadily and taking 30 pints a day out of the area. Until we can correct a structural problem this appliance is doing a great job and lessening the AC coming on so often. I highly recommend it.
Stopped working after three months - poor customer service response

I purchased the DP-50-03, which is identical to this model, though with a slightly larger capacity. It worked for one summer season (2009) and this year when I attempted to use it at the beginning of summer, it did not work. This was literally 12 months and one week after I purchased it.

I spoke with Soleus customer service, and while they were fairly cordial, their response was "sorry, nothing we can do. Your unit is out of warranty. You should take it into an A/C repair shop". I also wrote a letter to the company president but never received a response.

So basically, I paid for a unit that worked for approximately three months, and will now have to pay another ~ $100 to attempt to fix it, with no guarantee that it will be fixed.

I would not recommend this company nor their products.
